On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. After this event, the next total solar eclipse that can be seen from the contiguous United States will be on Aug. 23, 2044. Join us at the Manatoc Scout Reservation for a prime opportunity to view this historic celestial event. Viewing locations will include the Manatoc Parade Field, the Manatoc Obstacle Course and the Camp Butler Sports Field.
Two different packages are available:
1. Units may reserve a cabin or tent camping for a base fee, and a per-person fee includes cabin, a meal Sunday Night, and Lunch on Monday.
2. Individual Monday Eclipse package includes a Lunch on Monday.
Both packages include solar viewing glasses and a patch!

YOUTH PROTECTION UPDATE
The greatest concern of the Great Trail Council, BSA is the safety of the youth in our program. In January 2023, the Great Trail Council Board of Directors voted that beginning March 2023, any registered adults and youth participants over the age of 18 will have their registration expired without refund three business days prior to the last business day of the month in which their Youth Protection Training (YPT) expires. Any YPT expiring between September 30th and December 31st each year will need to be renewed by September 27th. Anyone with expiring YPT during that time who does not renew their training will have their registration expired in September to not negatively impact the recharter process. Please see the chart below for expire dates each month.
If you have received notification that your YPT is expiring and your records indicate that it is current, please forward a copy of the YPT certificate that was emailed to you by the National office (photos/copies/screenshots of anything other than the certificate will not be accepted) to our Council Registrar to update your personal profile. If you are no longer participating in Scouts, we ask that you notify our Registrar as well. Emails may be sent to jodi.szahlender@scouting.org.
Should the adult or youth participant wish to reinstate their registration, they will need to complete a new application in its entirety and pay the appropriate registration fees.
If you have any questions, please contact your District Executive.
